The minister of Lands and Regional Government has disclosed that plans are underway to kick-start the road construction project in the Sarahulleh community of Gambissara in the Upper River Region.

Minister Momodou Kolley was speaking Wednesday during a meeting with the people of Gambissara as part of his ongoing familiarisation tour of councils and establishments under his purview. He further disclosed that work would commence by January 2014.

He told the villagers about the importance of the road, noting that it is meant to ease the passage of vehicles in and out of the village. He observed that vehicles coming into the village find it difficult to enter some places within the community due to the tiny nature of some of the streets.

The Lands and Regional Government minister commended President Jammeh for the initiative of constructing expanded roads within the community to ease congestion. He informed the villagers that last year an assessment was done by the officials of the Department of Physical Planning, noting that that exercise was completed and that all is set for work to start.

The principal planning officer at the Department of Physical Planning, Essa Camara, said that all the necessary studies have been done, and assured that the work will be done properly without affecting anybody.

The chief of Jimara, Banta Tunkara, thanked President Jammeh for the love he has for the people of Gambissara, citing the upcoming road project as an example. He welcomed this new development from government and assured them of the village’s support and cooperation during the work.
