The chief scout commissioner (CSC) of The Gambia Scout Association (GSA), Pa Omar Bojang has been task to mediate the long running internal wrangling between the two scouting factions in Guinea Bissau that has seriously disturbed the growth and development of scouting in the country.

The President of the African Regional Scouting Committee based in Nairobi, Kenya thus mandated Pa Omar Bojang to intervene.

Pa was elected in 2010 by the governing body of the Gambia Scout Association (GSA) and the National Executive, as the Chief Scout' Commissioner of The Gambia. He was also tasked to re-build or strengthen Scouting in The Gambia for the benefit of Gambian children when he was elected as the Chief Scout commissioner, the dream he continues to pursue assiduously despite numerous  challenges.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Observer, Bojang expressed delight on the regional scouting committee’s assignment. “I feel proud about this new task given to me by the Regional Scouts Committee,” Bojang stated. This he said is in  recognition of the influential status of the Gambia scouting movement, noting that The Gambia was singled out as example to others in the region.

Bojang revealed that the ecision wsa made  at  the ECOWAS Zonal Scout Conference recently at the Senegalese capital and  brought together members of the scouting fraternity to discuss issues affecting the development of scouting within the sub-region.

He said the objectives of the convergence was to strategise ways and means of  strengthening small and weaker  scout associations, as well as share experiences and best practices in scouting. The CSC of the Gambia thus called for support and collaboration in mediating the wrangling between the Guinea Bissau Scouts.

He further disclosed to the Daily Observer that he was also elected into the executive committee of West African Scouts Zone (WASZ) fcharged with the responsibility of  developing and sensitizing adults about scouting in the sub-region. He noted that  being part of the executive committee is a great thing, not only for him  but also for the entire country . Bojang therefore commended the chief scout for the sport.

Meanwhile, The Gambia has been chosen to host ECOWAS Scouts Zonal Conference in 2015, according to Pa omar Bojang, this was made possible thanks to the support given by the president, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Dr. Alhaji Yahya AJJ Jammeh, who is also the chief scout of the Gambia.
