It doesn’t look like the European Union will ever approve the remaining 10 Million Euros that were earmarked for Gambia’s deplorable road network—largely due to concerns raised by some EU Member countries about the situation of human rights and governance in the Gambia, the Freedom Newspaper can report. The vote to approve or disapprove the remaining funds was scheduled for Thursday, but due to the rising opposition coming from some EU member states for the funds to be put on hold until situation of governance improves in the Gambia, the vote was deferred until next month—December 6. The latest stalemate is a big blow to the dying Jammeh regime, which is in desperate need of funds to keep the wheel of government running.
“Vote postponed until 6 December because member states are demanding improvement on human rights,” said our source close to Gambia’s Foreign Ministry. “This is yet another big setback in our quest to get funding from the EU. It was tough for us to get the 3 Million Euros from them,” our source added.
Dictator Jammeh in an interview with the London based New Africa Magazine accuses the West of hypocritically trying to take credit for some of the developmental projects that he claimed to have initiated in the Gambia since coming to power. Jammeh challenged the New Africa reporter to tell him what developmental project has the EU, or any other donor partners has financed in the Gambia. Jammeh claimed that all projects in the country were funded by his government, while adding that there are conditions attached with western aid and nothing will make him to change his style of governance. He said the west perceives him as a dictator, but he said he is happy to be called a dictator for development.
“They said I am a dictator, but I am a dictator for development. Here in the Gambia, I am a servant of the people. I know what they want, but they cannot change me. Nothing will make me to change. They have not done nothing for this country,” Jammeh said. He also insulted the British calling them bunch of gays. Jammeh said UK’s pro gay agenda will never be accepted in the Gambia.
Jammeh also lamented about the rising black hate crime in the UK allegedly perpetrated white folks . He said victims of black crimes in the UK never receive justice, while white folks who are victims of black crimes are given the necessary attention such crimes deserved.
Jammeh talks about “ the hypocrisy on the west’s war on terror and the killing of innocent people in the name of fighting terror. He said his position on anti gay rights, the enforcement of the death penalty, and his style of governance will remain unchanged.
