Confirmed sources have told the Daily Observer Thursday that the former chairman of the Basse Area Council (BAC) has been appointed the governor of the Upper River Region (URR) with immediate effect.
Omar Sampo Ceesay took the baton from Kanimang Sanneh, who hitherto this development, was celebrating his appointment as the acting governor of the region.
Readers would recall that Kanimang Sanneh, a native of Sandi Kunda and former Jimara lawmaker took over the keys from a long-serving governor, Omar Khan, in September, this year.
Contacted on this new political development, Omar Sampo Ceesay, confirmed his appointment as governor of the region, and used the opportunity to thank the president of the Republic, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh for what he called the “trust and confidence” bestowed on him.
Ceesay, who until this elevation was the chairman of the Basse Area Council from 2008, also seized the opportunity to renew his loyalty to the ruling party, assuring of his commitment to promote government’s development agenda for the region and the country at large.
The Daily Observer’s regional correspondent also contacted the former acting governor, who served as the chairman of the Basse Area Council from 2002-2007, for his reaction, but he would not comment.
